Jerry Bleem

I am lucky enough to have as my professor
Jerry Bleem, a very talented fiber artist and writer. His latest series of fiber sculptures have been received really well and I think they are really beautiful. They are made by using fibers, papers, dyes made from fruits and vegetables, and the most important, staples....he does this repetitive process of driving staples into his pieces. The staples resemble a stitch, which is stereotyped as a "feminine" action, but when examined much closer, I realized they are staples. Driving the staples into the piece is an aggressive action which competes with the perception of the "stitch".. they are very interesting and really get your mind thinking about the feminine vs. the masculine.

He is now working with the American flag in relation to nationalism. He does great work!
